Twenty years ago, tents were cumbersome affairs that often took a while to construct. Just carrying them around was difficult. Aluminium poles, ropes, metal pegs, and the tent itself, often with a fly sheet as well. Today, tents are lightweight, come with either telescopic poles, or no poles at all. Today's tents are easily packed atop a rucksack and can be assembled ready for use in minutes.
